How Hot and Cold Packs Work

What are they?
 
Hot and Cold Packs are self heating, re-usable, portable.  They can heat to 57 degrees C in a matter of seconds simply by clicking the aluminium button. The heat which is generated from the hot/cold packs is a regulated consistent heat, suitable for therapeutic purposes. They can also be used as a cold pack by storing in the fridge.
 
How Do They Work?
 
 
Flex the aluminium button back and forth, the friction  acts as a catalyst for an exothermic reaction within the liquefied contents - sodium acetate. The reaction creates a change from an liquid to a solid state releasing heat!

The heat packs generate heat for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on which pack you have. As the Hot/Cold pack fights the cold during the heating process, the pack will be rigid when first activated. Massage the heat pack to maximise the heat as well as softening the pack. This process may be repeated every 5 - 10 minutes or until the heat pack becomes solidified.

To reset the heat pack from the solid state, simply immerse  in  boiling water and boil continuously for 5 - 15 minutes, or until the heat pack becomes completely liquefied. When boiling, we advise that the heat pack does not touch the pot. To ensure this does not happen, wrap in a piece of cloth and cover with water.

The heat pack can be used straight from the boiling water (approx.  80 degrees C), by wrapping it in a towel, like a hot water bottle! When it cools, press button to heat as normal. This will double your time of usage.
 
For use as a cold pack store in a refrigerator for approximately 1 hour. DO NOT FREEZE the pack.

NOTE: If the Hot/Cold pack becomes solid or activates by itself after boiling, it means the heat pack was not set properly. Any residual salt crystals left in the pack will cause it to reactivate. If this is the case, re-boil for a few additional minutes until the liquid is completely clear.
